Interview with Top Gun: Maverick and Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Parts 1&2 Editor Eddie Hamilton
How Covid helped Top Gun: Maverick and how excited you should be for the Dead Reckoning films
For fans of Tom Cruise, film editing, behind-the-scenes, Mission: Impossible, and the filmmaking world at large, this interview with Eddie Hamilton is for you. Hamilton has edited a slew of notable films, from Kingsman: The Secret Service to X-Men: First Class to Kick-Ass to Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation/Fallout, and now has Top Gun: Maverick and the next two Mission: Impossible films in his cap. That’s a huge deal considering the massive success of Maverick and the unrelenting hype for Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part 1 (and 2, for that matter).
Hamilton spoke to me at length in an interview that took place just a few weeks after Top Gun: Maverick opened, but was not available for release until now. The editor discusses how Covid helped make Top Gun: Maverick a better film and how it’s doing the same for Mission: Impossible 7 & 8, as well as the various aspects of behind-the-scenes moves that were made to create these epic blockbusters, from stunts to VFX to the involvement of Cruise at every turn.
Hamilton reveals that Cruise has final cut on all of these films, a rare crown to wear in Hollywood, and that there are stunts and sequences in the upcoming Mission: Impossible films that will wow us in all the ways that Cruise knows how to wow. Great stuff from a an interesting and insightful creator. Enjoy!
