Greetings, and welcome to a new venture here at Way of the Shirey, which comes in the form of a podcast. I know many of you have followed me during my days at The Beard and The Bald and I hope that you’ll join me here on this next venture. There’s always the possibility that the old show could return or even have a reunion show or something of the like, as I’ve missed doing it and keeping up with my old pal Chris Bumbray at JoBlo. We’ll see what the future holds on that one.
But, there’s plenty of room for other podcasts, and that’s where Repackaged Wisdom comes in. It’s a very different kind of podcast, shaped around the concept of wisdom and how it’s carried on throughout generations to continue to fuel our lives. That’s a broad stroke, but ultimately we all have things that we cling to, be it something we were told, something we read, something we heard, etc., which has become a kind of life mantra that carries us through the good and bad of our day-to-day lives.
I call this “repackaged” wisdom, as none of it is new. There is no new wisdom to be gleaned. Get busy livin’ or get busy dyin’. The journey of a thousand miles begins with one step. Every man dies. Not every man really lives. The list goes on and on and it’s repackaged to us in every facet, be it a grandparent, a friend, a movie, an Instagram post, or even graffiti on a wall.
What’s amazing about Repackaged Wisdom is how it is reshaped throughout the generations, sending the same messages of perseverance, strength, will, love, compassion, and determination (amongst others), but in a new way. What fascinates me is HOW it is repackaged and HOW people are using it today.
With that, the goal of Repackaged Wisdom is to share some of my own, while welcoming guests from all walks of life to share their own stories and their own repacked wisdom to peek under the hood of how it continues to serve us. I hope that it will enlighten you, my reader/listener, and perhaps continue the sharing of such wisdom or even your own repackaging of it, while also learning about someone new who is also struggling in this big, crazy rock floating in space that we all inhabit.
So, sit back, enjoy the show, and by all means let me know what you think and what ideas you may have for future guests or topics.
